Veterans Day 2009
Tonight I'm attending a candlelight vigil in honor of Veterans Day. With the Ft. Hood tragedy still developing, it is of the utmost importance that we honor the military's men and women veterans. And as a Texan, I am grieve for my friends who had family members who were on the base (and some quite close to the shooter) at Ft. Hood. So pause tomorrow at the eleventh hour on the eleventh day of the eleventh month for all of our verterans.
Halloween costume…check!
I have my Halloween costume (sans shoes). But it shall remain a mystery until Halloween. That it all.
Wanna guess what it is (comment below)?
Race for the Cure
Yesterday I volunteered with a group of friends at Race for the Cure. The massiveness of the event was awe-inspiring. We arrived before dawn and were met by flocks of people dressed in their pink outfits, ready to volunteer or race. Lucky for me, I am a morning person and wasn't too droopy-eyed all morning. It was fun distributing pink lanyards as well as checking out the various organizations and companies that supported the Susan G. Komen foundation. My friends and I received so much literature on breast cancer as well as a ton of freebies like koozies, lip balms, hats, and bags. On of the highlights of volunteering was seeing the pink-themed costumes that people created.

Think Pink: Lisa for Loft Breast Cancer Bracelet
Goal: Eliminate Breast Cancer
My Weapon of Choice: Lisa for Loft Breast Cancer Bracelet
Although it's sold out online, you still have a chance to snag the Lisa for Loft Breast Cancer Bracelet ($24.50) in stores. The gold-tone, ribbon, and mixed chain design is a stylish way to show your support; $5 from each bracelet will benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. I become so empowered when I wear mine, nodding to the toughness of the chains, yet I feel feminine and delicate like the bow.

My boyfriend's mother and paternal grandmother were both women who won the battle with breast cancer, and this weekend my bf and I are attending Race for the Cure as volunteers. Rain, Rain, Go Away
For the past three weeks it's been rainy, uber-wet, and cold. It's pretty rare for North Texas to have weather like this in October; usually we're in the high 70's or low 80's with a slight breeze. The mini-lakes of mud and river-ettes of rainwater are making it impossible to look cute. I've got my reliable pair of polka dot Target rain boots, but it's killing me that I'm wearing the same pair of shoes each day. Thank the gods that smart women like Rebecca Miller who put a little function into our fashionable lives. She's the designer/inventor of the Shuella (shoe + umbrella).
Shuellas ($50 for a pair + carrying case) let you wear your favorite heels yet protect them from torrential rain. I love this innovation because I can wear the more professional styles to my business classes while still being able to wade through the campus on inclement weather days. When you reach your destination, just remove the outer covering and voila! your Christian Louboutins are intact (and dry)! They come in four colors, including black if you need to rock serious stunner shoes and wear a more conservative cover on them. Marvelous!

FTC to regulate Blogs
As a marketing major and fresh blogger, I've come upon a bit of news that will rock the blogosphere. The Federal Trade Commission announced that it will regulate endorsements via the social media. That means that any blogger (from celebrity to a casual writer) will be subject to FTC regulation and must make public the "material connections" in product reviews. Advertising, celebrity endorsements, and product opinions now fall under the scope of a guideline penned in 1980. A ripple effect will surely alter future blog advertising, free products/gifts to bloggers, company sponsorship, product reviews, et cetera; ultimately, it's a broad jurisdiction which I'm curious to see how the FTC will monitor everyone. For more information, read the news directly from the FTC here. What do you think???
Another two for one…
...this must be the theme for today. First, a cute pearl + braid necklace; now, the latest additions to my fitness armory. I purchased pink heavy bag boxing gloves and hand-wraps from Academy. Not only do they help keep me in shape, the gloves are yet another effort to support The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. According to Everlast, part of the retail price will be donated to the cause. They're also darn cute which offsets the sweaty-ickyness of exercise.

- Everlast Pro Style Training Gloves
These images are from Academy's website where both can be purchased: Hand-wraps ($2.99) and the Gloves ($19.99). Tomorrow I plan to hit the bag with these, doing my part to fight breast cancer and arm jiggle.
